National Aquarium in Baltimore New
This site has excellent interactive games that promote environmental awareness. The games are designed around the following topics: seahorses, sea jellies, the rainforest, oceans, and deadly venoms. This site is appropriate for upper elementary students.

Something Fishy - Anatomy, Adaptation & Evolution (HS)
This lesson plan allows students to synthesize what they have learned about the anatomy of a fish with their knowledge of ocean environments and organism's method of adapting to survive. Students work collaboratively to describe the characteristics of the ocean life in 2025.  (considering global warming, pollution, etc.)  Given the evolved condition of the ocean, students will create fish of the future, listing many different and unusual ways that their fish will adapt to survive.  Students will name their fish and create a labeled model of it.

Cell Biology
Wow! What a great site for teachers. It gives you in-depth study guides, sample exams covering common questions, interactive quizzes, discussion message board, and streaming videos of cells.
Microbe Detectives New
Students are trying to find the culprit microbe that is causing a group of students to be ill. Polly Paramecium and Sally Salmonella are two of the suspects. They will conduct research from the given links and eliminate microbes that are not "guilty" and decide which microbe is guilty. They will use clues to complete a worksheet and prepare a presentation of their verdict and evidence at the end of the project. A rubric is included for the evaluation. This may be better suited for 5th and 6th graders.
Project Challenge - Life in the Extreme New
Contructing Knowledge - Computer Skills, Ecology and Solar Systems are addressed in this webquest. Students are on a mission to select a planet where life can exist because the Earth is becoming to crowded or polluted. Virtual Trips to Black Holes and Neutron Stars

This is a great site for investigations of light. There are detailed instructions for activities and plenty of background information. Also, a list of additional resources is included.
National Laboratories
This site reports on serious science work at the Department of Energy Labs. Research results from Argonne, Brookhaven, Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia is found posted here. Information includes radiation and robotics at Sandia to superconductors and skeletal scans at Oak Ridge.

Despite a rather low-tech design, this site lives up to its billing as the Web's premier source of volcano information. Check out the currently erupting volcanoes page to catch up with the dozens of mountains around the world that are blowing their stacks. This is a jeopardy game for students, designed by NASA, which has questions on concepts about air, land, and water. Students answer the multiple choice questions and then find out the answers, while the computer keeps their score.

Forget the movies, here's the real deal. Includes the latest scientific thinking on the 1997XF11 asteroid that will zip (relatively close) by Earth in 30 years. For high school students. This site is for the more advanced students.

Human Spaceflight
NASA's new home for manned mission information, this site imbodies its shuttle and International Space Station sites and will soon host its Exploring Mars site. There's a bit of news, a bit of history, and the shuttle countdown clock, but the most interesting feature may be SkyWatch, which tells you when and where the shuttle and station can be seen overhead with the naked eye.

This website has a variety of cartoon videos that briefly explain scientific phenomena. This website is appropriate for elementary and middle school students.
Discover Science
A great interactive site to discover earth science and life science, using a Star Trek theme. Users become a Staf Fleet cadet and collect cards after exploring and correctly completing tasks.
For Kids Only: Earth Science Enterprise
This is a NASA site that focuses on relatively down-to-earth topics like tropical rainfall and the ozone hole. There's something for nearly all ages here as well, from an online coloring book to a study of continental drift and plate tectonics. Sandlot Science

GLOBE Program Homepage
GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is an international program where your students can join students from around the world in monitoring their local environment. Students can then submit their findings to a growing database on the Internet. Scientists and other students can access the data for research about the global environment. This site contains all the information a teacher would need to perform GLOBE activities, including studies of the atmosphere, hydrology, soils, seasons, land cover, and global positioning systems (GPS). The protocols for the activities are described, although to become an offical GLOBE site, teachers must also attend an official GLOBE training session. Information on training sessions can be obtained on the Globe site.
